Hello!

Today's kanji is "me"(目 eye).

1 Draw a vertical stroke at 30° angle.

Draw a horizontal stroke. Horizontal strokes must be thinner than vertical strokes.

3 Stop for a few seconds, increasing the pressure at ③, and turn to a vertical stroke.

Draw three horizontal strokes, dividing the space almost equally.

This character is long vertically.
Please look at the bottom right corner. You need to make a space as shown by the red circle.

Thank you for your attention!

How to Write "大"

Hi there!

Today, I'm going to show you how to write "dai" (大 big) character.

1. For the first stroke, write it as I described in the previous post.
http://shukeiworks.blogspot.jp/
Make sure you put the brush at 45 angle.

2. When writing vertical strokes, it is best to start at a sharp angle. (About 30° showed in ②)

3. Sweep to the left without stopping.

4. Increase the pressure gradually, stop for a few seconds at point ④, (which is supposed to be the thickest part of "dai" character) and sweep to the right without hurry.

Being careful of a trapezoid shape, and you can write a well-balanced "dai".

This character is widely used for the combinations with other characters, and includes basic shodou skills such as left-sweep (左払い) and right-sweep (右払い).
So, if you master how to write it, you can apply it to other kanji.

Today I'm going to show you how to write a shodou stroke.

You don't have to prepare a big brush, suzuri and sumi for practice.
You can get a reasonable brush pen from an online shop like Amazon.

You don't have to prepare hanshi which is usually used for shodou.
I used a piece of regular paper (such as copy paper) for writing it.

A brush pen and regular paper are enough for practice. (unless you're going to be a shodou professional.)

1. First, make sure you put the brush on the paper at an angle of 45°.
Stop for a few seconds to adjust the shape, which is called "起筆" (kihitsu).

2. Move the brush pen to the right without hesitation, gradually increasing the pressure. It is also okay to go a little upward and to the right.

3. Stop and form a shape like ③. This is called "終筆" (shuhitsu).

This is one of basic ways to write a horizontal line, though it depends on the character.
