Today I'm going to show you how to write a shodou stroke.

You don't have to prepare a big brush, suzuri and sumi for practice.
You can get a reasonable brush pen from an online shop like Amazon.

You don't have to prepare hanshi which is usually used for shodou.
I used a piece of regular paper (such as copy paper) for writing it.

A brush pen and regular paper are enough for practice. (unless you're going to be a shodou professional.)

1. First, make sure you put the brush on the paper at an angle of 45°.
Stop for a few seconds to adjust the shape, which is called "起筆" (kihitsu).

2. Move the brush pen to the right without hesitation, gradually increasing the pressure. It is also okay to go a little upward and to the right.

3. Stop and form a shape like ③. This is called "終筆" (shuhitsu).

This is one of basic ways to write a horizontal line, though it depends on the character.

Thank you for visiting my page.
