Hi there!
Today, I'm going to show you how to write "dai" (大 big) character.
1. For the first stroke, write it as I described in the previous post.

Make sure you put the brush at 45 angle.
2. When writing vertical strokes, it is best to start at a sharp angle. (About 30° showed in ②)
3. Sweep to the left without stopping.
4. Increase the pressure gradually, stop for a few seconds at point ④, (which is supposed to be the thickest part of "dai" character) and sweep to the right without hurry.
Being careful of a trapezoid shape, and you can write a well-balanced "dai".
This character is widely used for the combinations with other characters, and includes basic shodou skills such as left-sweep (左払い) and right-sweep (右払い).
So, if you master how to write it, you can apply it to other kanji.
Thank you for your attention!
